Medical iSight and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital launch NHSfirst visualisation tool for endometriosis care

Medical iSight Corporation together with Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London, are pioneering advanced imaging technology to enhance care for women undergoing endometriosis surgery. There is an urgent need to increase understanding of a condition that affects 1 in 10 women, and to help improve diagnosis, treatment, and overall patient experience.

Using Medical iSight’s XRAIconnect platform, anatomically precise 3D models have been developed and optimised for use with Apple Vision Pro. The technology is intended to improve patient understanding of complex women’s health conditions, including deep infiltrating endometriosis, ovarian cysts due to endometriosis (endometrioma) and uterine fibroids. XRAI and Apple Vision Pro together provide exceptional visual fidelity, giving patients a clear, detailed view of their own health – making complex information feel approachable and empowering informed decisions. Being able to step through a sequence of advanced 3D anatomical models, clinicians can demonstrate the structural changes caused by these conditions in meticulous detail.

During appointments ahead of surgery, patients experience a spatial representation of internal anatomy, including key areas affected by inflammation and scar tissue such as the ovaries, bowel, or uterus. At the same time, clinicians interact with the same model from their computer and can highlight and enlarge specific areas to show the impact of the disease and the endometriosis that will be excised during surgery, in a collaborative consultation.

Dr Philip Pratt, Chief Technology Officer at Medical iSight, added: “We aim to bridge the gap between clinical complexity and patient understanding, making difficult anatomy and disease processes easier to explain and easier to grasp. By using immersive, highly accurate 3D visualisation with the power of Apple Vision Pro, we can support clearer conversations, more confident shared decision-making, and a more reassuring experience for patients facing conditions that are often frightening and poorly understood.”

Mr Thomas Bainton, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and a CW Innovation Fellow, said: “This 3D visualisation technology transforms the way we talk to patients about endometriosis. Rather than relying on basic drawings, we can walk through detailed anatomical changes together with patients, helping them more clearly understand their condition and the surgery they are preparing for. That level of understanding reduces anxiety, empowers patients to make informed decisions, and can make living with endometriosis feel less daunting.”
